6th Caribbean Alcohol Reduction Day (CARD) 2021.
The Healthy Caribbean Coalition (HCC) in partnership with the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO), the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission, continued it’s annual Caribbean Alcohol Reduction Day (CARD) webinar series with a webinar entitled Live Better, Drink Less: Challenges and Opportunities in the Caribbean, which took place on Friday December 3, 2021. The theme for 2021 was chosen in support of PAHO’s regional alcohol awareness campaign ‘LIVE BETTER, DRINK LESS, alcohol gets in the way’.
The HCC and partners have held an annual Caribbean Alcohol Reduction Day for the past five years, under the themes and titles: The Misuse of Alcohol (2016); Drink less, Reduce Cancer (2017); Youth: Let’s talk about alcohol (2018); Women and Alcohol (2019) and Alcohol and COVID-19 (2020).

Health Implications of Alcohol
This year’s webinar was entitled Live Better, Drink Less: Challenges and Opportunities in the Caribbean.
The objectives of the webinar were:
- To share the recently launched PAHO Regional Campaign ‘LIVE BETTER, DRINK LESS, alcohol gets in the way’.
- To provide an update on the regional progress in alcohol policy implementation including discussion of barriers and opportunities.
- To share recent data on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Alcohol Consumption in Jamaica.
The webinar took the form of a series of brief presentations followed by a brief question and answer session.
