Webinar: Creating healthier urban environments for children’s nutrition in Latin America and the Caribbean

Date: November 27, 2024 10:00am – 11:30am (Panama time)

Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) is one of the regions with the highest rates of overweight and obesity in the world, with 80 per cent of tis population living in urban areas, including more than 165 million children and adolescents. Urban environments in LAC are characterized by the aggressive promotion and high availability of unhealthy products, along with limited opportunities for physical activity, especially in the most vulnerable and socioeconomically disadvantaged regions. As the population in Latin America and the Caribbean increasingly moves to urban areas, cities and local governments play an increasingly important role in ensuring that children and their families have access to adequate, sustainable, and nutritious food and healthy living conditions. To support this, UNICEF and Cities for Better Health (C4BH) collaborated to create a regional event to provide guidance and share best practices with cities and key partners. This initiative underscores the pivotal role of cities in shaping healthy urban food environments, creating a better future for children and adolescents in LAC.
