Amber Larsen, Grants Coordinator at St. George's University, was an invited attendee at the Healthy Caribbean Coalition (HCC) and Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Workshop titled “Civil Society Capacity Building Workshop on Chronic Diseases”, held in Barbados, October 27-28, 2010.
Representing WINDREF, Ms. Larsen was part of a select delegation of Civil Society Organizations including Health NGOs, Faith Based Organizations, Trade Unions, Health Associations, Service Clubs, Education, Health, and Special Interest groups that came together from over 15 Caribbean countries to focus on actions to be taken to step up a collaborative effort to combat chronic diseases in the Caribbean Region.
Beatriz Champagne, Executive Director, InterAmerican Heart Foundation, and Professor Trevor Hassel, HCC, facilitated the coverage of a variety of topics including HCC progress over the past 3 years, the distribution of a plan for scaling up HCC, building capacity of civil society organizations, projects to consider for country implementation, and the road to the 2011 High-level Meeting of the UN General Assembly on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases ("NCD Summit 2011").
