Some 600 expected for Friday’s Pink Parade for Breast Cancer Awareness
The streets of Philipsburg St. Maarten will be flooded by a sea of pink for the annual Pink Parade for Breast Cancer awareness on Friday, October 4. The parade is organized by Positive Foundation and Elektralytes Foundation. More than 600 so far including 30 businesses and groups have registered for the Pink Parade. Five drum and steel bands will accompany the marchers from Festival Village starting at 4:30pm through town and onto the finale in front of Holland House on the Boardwalk. Read more

This weekend Sunday September 29, 2013 at the First Citizens Globeathon in Barbados, 350 Barbadians added their names to the 5000+ Caribbean people, asking our regional Heads of Government to take steps towards ensuring every women across the region has access to cervical cancer screening. The first ever Globeathon was a huge success by all accounts and the Caribbean was no exception. Stay tuned to see stories from the Globeathon from across the Caribbean.
Health, climate change top priorities for Caribbean island States at the UN
27 September 2013 - Leaders of Caribbean island States addressing the United Nations General Assembly today outlined progress made at eradicating poverty and urged greater support from the international community to meet the universally accepted goals, particularly those on health and climate change. In his speech to the 68th high-level debate, Prime Minister Denzil Douglas of Saint Kitts and Nevis stressed that special attention must be paid to the high incidence of diabetes and other non-communicable diseases plaguing the Caribbean. The World Diabetes Day 2013 campaign marks the fifth and final year of the 2009-2013 campaign on “Diabetes education and prevention.”. Diabetes is one of the major health and development challenges of the 21st century. There are currently 371 million people living with diabetes and another 280 million are at high risk of developing the disease. Half a billion people are expected to be living with diabetes by 2030. Diabetes and its complications are largely preventable and there are proven, affordable interventions available. Everyone is concerned and everyone has a role to play in helping to turn the tide of diabetes to protect our future. The slogan of the campaign is: DIABETES: PROTECT OUR FUTURE. Read more
Yourwellness Magazine Advises on Life after Cervical Cancer - In an effort to make cervical cancer screening accessible to all Caribbean women, the Jamaica Cancer Society (JCS) has joined forces with the Caribbean Cancer Alliance (CCA) to begin an e-petition, the Jamaica Observer reported September 8th. According to the article, “Cervical Cancer Lobby,” the petition, which requires more than 2.5 million signatures, was launched earlier this year and urges Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) to make the service more affordable and accessible. Executive Director of the JCS, Yulit Gordon, commented, “It only takes a few seconds and in the long term, we will be reaping huge dividends as it relates to safeguarding our women's health.” Read more
