HCC applauds the “coming together” of health NGOs

Barbados Heart & Stroke Foundation and The Barbados Diabetes Foundation The HCC strongly supports the recent initiatives by the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados and the Barbados Diabetes Foundation to seek areas where they can work together to tackle the NCDs.

The members of the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados and the Barbados Diabetes Foundation met recently and discussed ways of working together in tackling NCD’s. 30% of the Heart & Stroke Foundation patients attending the clinic are diabetic.

They also discussed Ways to improve their care and support, one of the suggestions was organizing diabetic education monthly to be facilitated by the Diabetes Foundation.

A tour was made of the recently refurbished and enhanced preventative and rehabilitative care unit and also the well stocked Maria Holder Memorial Trust Resource Centre, generously funded by “The Maria Holder Memorial Trust”.

Both parties welcomed the idea of creating a common library catalogue system for the Resource Centre and that the socio-economic sensitivity must underpin their health and wellness promotion activities and that innovation was needed in our approaches.
