HCC in collaboration with CARPHA and PAHO/WHO

The HCC in collaboration with CARPHA and PAHO/WHO is hosting a Regional NCD Meeting entitled: “STRENGTHENING HEALTH SYSTEMS, SUPPORTING NCD ACTION”: Advocating for Policies and Action. “From The Declaration of POS to The Global NCD Framework and Beyond: A Meeting of Caribbean NCD Stakeholders to Advance National NCD Plans, and Consider Priorities for Action”.

The meeting will be held this Friday November 22nd, 2013 at the Kapok Hotel in Trinidad and Tobago. The meeting is part of the NCD Alliance global Civil Society Advocacy Programme "STRENGTHENING HEALTH SYSTEMS, SUPPORTING NCD ACTION".

The meeting reflects the HCC's commitment to engaging a 'whole of society' approach to NCD prevention with representatives from Health NGOs, Academia, Governments, the Media, Trade Unions, Women's Groups, Regional Public Health Organsiations, International Health Organisations, Faith-based organisations, the Private Sector and Service Clubs. The keynote address will be given by Sir George Alleyne. Look out for meeting photos, reports and presentations in our upcoming roundups.

NCD Alliance launches online advocacy toolkit

NCD Alliance launches online advocacy toolkit As part of the NCD Alliance's program Strengthening Health Systems, Supporting NCD Action, generously funded by Medtronic Philanthropy, the NCD Alliance is pleased to launch “Non-communicable Diseases: Join the Fight” - an online advocacy toolkit aimed at supporting civil society’s national and regional NCD advocacy efforts. H2O Phlo Signs Up to Help End Cervical Cancer Now H2O Phlo Signs Up to Help End Cervical Cancer Now - There was no hesitation whatsoever when one of the leading R&B vocal groups out of Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean, H2O Phlo, was invited to sign the Caribbean Cervical Cancer E-petition. The group, with current members Jason ‘Fridge’ Seecharan, Junior Nelson and Keston Rosales pledged to join the fight against cancer during a visit to The Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society recently. NCD Alliance E-Alert - Caribbean Regional NCD Meeting - The NCD Alliance’s national implementing partner for the program in the Caribbean – the Healthy Caribbean Coalition (HCC) - is holding a meeting of key Caribbean NCD stakeholders on 22nd November in Port of Span in Trinidad and Tobago to advance National NCD Plans and consider priorities for action. Brazilian National NCD Meeting - The NCD Alliance’s national implementing partner for the program in Brazil – ACT Brazil - is holding a national meeting on the prevention and control of NCDs on November 21st in Sao Paulo. The International Diabetes Federation Diabetes Atlas - 382 million people have diabetes; by 2035 this will rise to 592 million. The number of people with type 2 diabetes is increasing in every country. 80% of people with diabetes live in low- and middle-income countries. The HCC is a regional network of Caribbean health NGOs and civil society organizations with the remit to combat chronic diseases (NCDs) and their associated risk factors and conditions. Our membership presently consists of more than 50 Caribbean-based health NGOs and over 55 not-for-profit organisations and, in excess of 200 individual members based in the Caribbean and across the globe.
