The Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society

OUR Vision – OUR Mission The Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society continues to make big strides against cancer and 2013 will be no exception. Founded in 1969, the Society, a non-profit voluntary service organization, began when close friends formed a Steering Committee. They shared a common vision – to bring a message of hope to cancer survivors and to promote awareness. Our mission is, “To create and promote greater awareness of the need for early detection and preventative measures and to reduce the incidence of cancer through education, service and advocacy.” The Society shares a common vision with HCC regarding Cervical Cancer and has been a member of the coalition for one year.

Located in Woodbrook, Port-of-Spain our clinic offers a wide range of screening which includes Pap smears and High Vaginal Swabs. In order to make substantial progress in the battle against Cervical Cancer, the Society dispatches fully equipped mobile coaches throughout Trinidad & Tobago. Since 2004, the Society acquired a state of the art Colposcopy unit where research and education in the prevention, early detection and treatment of Cervical Cancer takes place. In 2007, in conjunction with PAHO/WHO, the Society was part of the Human Papilloma Virus pilot test conducted by Dr. Rosemary Paul to determine the various strains pertaining to Trinidad and Tobago.
