Call for Universal Access to Cervical Cancer Prevention

As the HCC and partners from across the Caribbean prepare to launch a historical e-Petition aimed at improving cervical cancer service delivery, the world is being asked to join hands and sign a Call for Universal Access to Cervical Cancer Prevention. The HCC was proud to participate in the recent Global Forum on Cervical Cancer Prevention (www.cervicalcancerforum.org) on May 27th, 2013 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which brought together global cervical cancer prevention leaders, advocates, academics and policy makers for an informative, consensus-building conversation to share best practices, highlight early adopters, and explore innovative financing options for comprehensive cervical cancer prevention and treatment programs. At this meeting, a group of international organizations launched the Call for Universal Access to Cervical Cancer Prevention. The call aims to build momentum for the uptake of HPV vaccines and screening and treatment tools.

Washington, D.C., 30 May 2013 (PAHO/WHO) - On World No Tobacco Day, May 31, the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) is calling on countries throughout the Americas to ban tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship. Ireland set to become second country in the world to introduce plain pack cigarettes - "It is with great pleasure that I announce, ahead of World No Tobacco Day on Friday, that I have received Government approval to begin the process of introducing standardised/plain packaging of tobacco products in Ireland. While many arguments will be made against such an introduction, I am confident that this legislation will be justified and supported purely by the fact that it will save lives” stated Minister Reilly today.
