This network seeks to create and nurture an NCD Youth advocate culture regionally and globally.

CLAN Empowering youth around NCDs! Are you NCD+?
The CLAN (Caring & Living As Neighbours) workshop held last week August 28th at the 65th Annual UN DPI/ NGO Conference in New York showcased the power of young people in battling NCDs. HCC was a co-sponsor including the American Cancer Society, Healthy Caribbean Coalition, NCD Child Atfaal Welfare Society, Kenyan Rheumatic Heart Disease Club.
 Speakers included: Seun Adebiyi, NCD Youth Advocate (Nigeria), Global Health, American Cancer Society; Laura Musambayi, NCD Youth Advocate Kenya, Kenyan Rheumatic Heart Disease Club Mentor; Prof Jamal Raza, Director of the National Institute for Child Health in Karachi and founder of Atfaal Welfare Society; Maisha Hutton, HCC; and Rose Rodas, Programme Manager (Canada), NCD Child. The workshop featured examples of transformative, grassroots, rights-based and inclusive action by leading experts in the field of non-communicable diseases to redress the enormous inequities faced by young people affected by NCDs. The innovative new NCD+ campaign was highlighted at the meeting.

NCDs: can we and should we not do better?
 Sandeep Kishore is a resident physician at the Yale School of Medicine and Chair of the Young Professionals Chronic Disease Network.

The Third UN Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) will take place next week, 1-4 September in Apia, Samoa. The NCD Alliance is represented at this conference, given the strong focus on NCDs and health. NCD-related events include a side event on Monday 1 September, and a partnership dialogue on Tuesday 2 September. Brazil fines PMI for using 'Be Malboro' campaign to market to youth!
The consumer protection agency for the state of São Paulo/Brazil has issued a fine against PMI for using the “Be Marlboro” campaign to market to youth, in the amount over one million reais, which is around US$ 500,000. The fine sends a strong message to the tobacco industry that Brazilian civil society and the government will take action against tobacco companies that target youth.
