First Published on: 30th May. Barbados Nation Sunday Sun
AS THE Heart and Stroke Foundation of Barbados
(HSFB) celebrates its 25th anniversary, the Board of
Directors wishes to express heartfelt thanks to patron
His Excellency Sir Clifford Husbands, Governor
General of Barbados as well as the Executive, CEO and
staff, volunteers, members, donors and sponsors, and
medical professionals who have contributed to its
formation and growth and who continue their devoted
involvement.
Public support of the programmes, especially by
those who are at high risk for heart disease or stroke, or
who have already experienced such health problems is
very welcome. The HSFB also appreciates participation
in its fund-raising activities and continues to educate
adults and children in various ways, including the
publication of the HEARTLINE magazine and
newspaper pages.
The HSFB is a non-profit organisation registered
under the Companies Act 1982 of Barbados,
registration number 269 and under the Charities Act
1979-2 registration number 82. The health body was
founded in 1985 as the Heart Foundation of Barbados
(HFB) and in 2006 embraced stroke to become the
Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados.
As a non-governmental organisation which receives
no public funding, it is heavily dependent upon
donations, sponsorships, membership fees, and support
for continuous education and training. Fund-raising
activities are also held to keep the work of the
organisation going.
The motto of HSFB is “Everybody has a heart” and
this speaks directly to each individual to make a
personal commitment to living a healthy lifestyle.
