Healthy Caribbean Coalition - United Nations General Assembly is about to consider a resolution calling for comprehensive action to address non-communicable diseases (NCDs)
Thanks to the swift action taken by NGOs around the world – including many FCA members – the United
Nations General Assembly is about to consider a resolution calling for comprehensive action to address
non-communicable diseases (NCDs), tobacco use and other risk factors. We understand the resolution
could be introduced as early as Thursday 6 May for immediate adoption, so there is still just time to urge your country to support the resolution.
The resolution is available
here in English (PDF 38KB right click "Save Link/Target As"). (French, Russian, Spanish, Arabic and Chinese versions are also available as pdfs and in Word on the
FCAintranet).
So far, a total of 44 countries are co-sponsoring the resolution.
Contact your UN
Permanent Representatives in New York, listed here
(PDF 38KB right click "Save Link/Target As") to request that they support the resolution, which calls for a High-Level Meeting of the General Assembly on the prevention and control of NCDs in September 2011.
