Healthy Caribbean Coalition - Informal civil society Interactive Hearing on 16 June in New York
The President of the 65th UN General Assembly, Mr Joseph Deiss, is convening an informal civil society Interactive Hearing on 16 June in New York as part of the preparations for the High-level meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases in September 2011.
The four main non-communicable diseases - cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic lung diseases and diabetes - kill three in five people worldwide, and cause great socioeconomic harm within all countries, particularly developing nations.
The decision by the United Nations General Assembly to convene a High-level Meeting on NCDs on 19-20 September 2011 presents a unique opportunity for the
international community to take action against the epidemic, save millions of lives and enhance development initiatives.
