Healthy Caribbean Coalition - The annual Commission on the Status of Women

<< back to past events index

The annual Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) will be held this week in New York. To highlight the impact of NCDs on women, the NCD Alliance will be holding a side event on Friday 25 February at 4pm, entitled 'Non-Communicable Diseases: The Neglected Dimension of Women's Health and Development.' This event will be used to launch our Women and NCD’s advocacy publication and raise awareness of NCDs as an important women's health issue in the lead up to the UN Summit. We have four esteemed panelists, one of which is Sania Nishtar, of member organization Heartfile, who will be speaking on health systems and cardiovascular disease. The flyer and letter of invitation are available on the Global Advocacy section of the website in Upcoming Events.

In order to maximize impact, we would really appreciate your support in communications activities leading up to and after the event. Main action points are:

  • Send invitation letter and flyer through your networks to promote the event. This includes any contacts in government, UN Missions, UN agencies, key experts, civil society reps, and industry. Sending this flyer out is as much about profiling the issue with relevant stakeholders as it is about getting people to the event.
  • In the lead up to the event, promote it on your communication platforms to create a buzz– social media (twitter, facebook, blogs); websites; newsletters;
  • In the lead up to the event and after, engage media contacts and scope potential op-ed opportunities;
  • On the 25th Feb and onwards, promote Women and NCDs publication on communications platforms and distribute at key events.

There will also be an NCD Panel Discussion on 24 February at 9:45 in New York in which former Vice-President of the World Heart Federation, Trevor Hassel will be presenting the Caribbean perspective.

We encourage all members to distribute the information on both events to your contacts in health, development and government.

Thank you for all of your assistance.
