The World Heart Federation calls on employers and employees to take responsibility
for workplace wellness on World Heart Day

Despite the vast majority (91%) of workers believing that it is
their employer’s responsibility to create a healthy working environment, nearly a third (32%)
of employees feels their workplace actually hinders their ability to lead a healthy lifestyle,
according to new independent research commissioned by the World Heart Federation and
conducted by Opinion Health.

Introduction ‐ Every year, 17.1 million lives are claimed by the global burden of heart disease and stroke - 82% of which are in the developing worldi. The number of deaths – especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) – is alarming and saddening, particularly since through steps such as eating a healthy diet, regular physical activity and avoiding tobacco, the majority of these deaths could be prevented.
